Meet the “Artist in Residence”, Marianne Mathys.

Marianne and I first met at a sports training camp, back in 2012. We spent the weekend with swimming and cross-country skiing in the fabulous scenery of the Engadin Alps. I found it very inspirational that she was regularly attending swim training - without being a triathlete like I am. Swimming without cycling and running?

We discussed the phenomena of Engadin Ski Marathon and that we both had in mind to participate. I was already participating in the women's race, but the much shorter distance did not seem to convince her. So we decided to go for the real Marathon, what we did the next winter. Meanwhile, we have been participating several times and meanwhile, she is much faster than I am.

Over time - when we were not too exhausted by our training - we started to discuss our hobbies and professions. We then also found out about our love to Art. Marianne has a solid education in art and graphics from the Zurich University of Arts and continued her development in Art Ateliers from well-known artists.

Being a graphic designer at the University of Zurich, she kept her artistic work as a hobby. Her development as an artist is exemplary. So she told me recently, that she was criticized for her artistic development. “Earlier, your paintings were more pleasing”, she had been told. Her reply: “Might be. But this is how I want to express myself now, with those colors, this composition.”

I think this is the point we as entrepreneurs want to make. Express ourselves, evolve, develop, always find better and smarter ways..
